A Great Reception for Angela

A taster session at Swansea College for women interested in engineering has led Angela Rees to a great new career with Elite.

The taster session, held in association with the Chwarae Teg and JIVE project, aimed to assist women looking to return to work or education.

Angela was so enthused that she immediately enrolled on the College's Electrical Electronics Progression Award & The Digital Aerials programs.

A training course at the Women's Workshop in Cardiff followed and, as a result of Angela's commitment and dedication, she passed all her exams and subsequently undertook a work placement with Elite.

MD Alan Polverino was so impressed with Angela that he has offered her a position as a trainee engineer.

"We are privileged to have Angela on board," says Alan. "To employ a female engineer — probably the first in Wales — to undertake day to day installation work is a great boost to both the business and our customers. Many households are more receptive to having a female engineer visit and Angela had made great progress during her time with us.'

Swansea College's links to Elite Aerials

The partnership between Swansea College and Elite Aerials continues to go from strength to strength.

We have worked closely together to launch the first nationally recognized qualification for the aerial industry - the Electrical Electronics Progression Award 6958 and Digital Aerials 2218 – and Alan Polverino was our guest speaker at the special business breakfast launch event.

Since then Elite has supported the qualification by sending engineers to train at Swansea College with a remarkable 100% success rate.

Elite has also supported our students by offering work placement opportunities and has taken on six graduates from Swansea College on a full time basis.

In turn, Swansea College has introduced Elite to the Joint Intervention Project (JIVE', which is a national partnership led by the UK Resource Centre for Women in Science Engineering and Technology.

Elite and Swansea College will continue to work together to ensure that the training the college delivers matches the requirements of an ever-evolving industry.
